For the past two years, Head Start / Early Head Start have been participating in a Local March for Babies fundraising walk. Each year our donations to the March of Dimes have grown. This year, as in the past two years, we will meet at Hutchinson Park on Saturday, April 13th at the pavilion behind the Ballfield. Staff register and make their donations prior to the walk. Although donations are greatly appreciated, they are not required to Walk with us. Family and friends are invited to Join in too!!

Hutchinson Park has a trail called the Sheepskin Trail. It is a beautiful walk through a covered bridge, along a stream and mostly all shaded and woodsy. The South Union Township section, which is our starting point, extends from Hutchinson Park to Pennsylvania Avenue. Along the way, the Sheepskin crosses several roads: Stadium Drive, Redstone Furnace Road, Township Drive near the South Union Township Building and Recreation Center, Barton Row, and Barton Mill Road. At the edge of Hutchinson Park, this section of the Sheepskin has a covered bridge that is constructed from a reclaimed interstate pedestrian bridge (a great spot for pictures!). Once you reach the intersection of Barton Row and Cinder Road, you will find yourself at the Tails on the Trail dog park. This section of the trail currently ends behind a future South Union recreational facility along Pennsylvania Avenue.

Here is a wonderful video of the trail-

Our Wellness Committee provides our walkers with bottled water, and everyone begins at their own pace. Last year most staff managed to complete almost 3 miles, 1.5 to the South Union township Recreation Center and 1.5 back to the park. This year we will register at 9:30 am and walk from 10-12pm.  We also have a rain date set for April 20th in case mother nature decides that is a better week. 😊

If you would like to join us, the park is located at 65 Reservoir Rd, Uniontown Pa 15401. Staff in the past have received many donations from family members and friends in support of this wonderful charity that is near and dear to our hearts here at Head Start!

The mission of the March of Dimes:

“Our mission is to lead the fight for the health of all moms and babies. Our goals are to end the preventable maternal health risks and deaths, end preventable preterm birth and infant death, and close the health equity gap.”

Our goal for 2024 is to raise $1000 for the charity. Come on out and March with us!!
