The first Grow Parenting Program cohort wrapped up on August 12, 2026, and we are excited to welcome our second cohort beginning September 2, 2026.

The Soft Launch of Cohort 1 gave PIC an opportunity to introduce Grow to parents and caregivers while also learning what worked best for our group. On June 22, 2026, Terri L. Rudy, M.P.A., Research Program Manager with the Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at The Pennsylvania State University, visited the Private Industry Council. Terri offered support, shared ideas, and talked with us about the experience of bringing the Grow Parenting Program to Westmoreland County.

During the six-week program, parents and caregivers explored practical ways to encourage positive behaviors, respond to challenging behaviors, strengthen family relationships, and support their children’s well-being. Just as importantly, they had a chance to talk about how these ideas could fit into their own families and daily routines.

As with any new program, we learned along the way. Each session gave us something to think about as we prepared for the next one. We listened to participants, paid attention to what seemed to connect with them, and considered ways to make the experience even better for future groups.

One of our favorite parts of the Grow Parenting Program was hearing parents and caregivers talk about using the strategies at home. It was especially rewarding to hear how they could take something discussed during a session and connect it to situations they were experiencing with their own children. Those conversations were a reminder that parenting strategies are most meaningful when they can become part of everyday family life.

Now, we are taking what we learned from Cohort 1 into Cohort 2. Beginning September 2, 2026, a new group of parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to learn, practice, and share strategies they can use with their children and families.

We are excited to welcome our new parents and caregivers, continue to learn from their experiences, and see where the next Grow journey takes us!
