Families enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start of Fayette County for the 2026-2027 program year were invited to the  “Stars, Stripes, & Healthy Smiles” event held on July 23, 2026, July 29, 2026, and August 13, 2026. These health fairs are to maximize our efforts in obtaining more health requirements from incoming and enrolled Early Head Start and Head Start children. We also had several activities for families to do during the event as they had dental, hearing, and vision screenings, growth assessments, and lead testing completed.

HS/EHS staff members were present and eager to support families as they made their way through the activities and health requirements. Families were greeted by staff at the doors to sign in. The families were able to participate in various activities such as: toothbrushing and hand-washing demonstrations, a parade of fitness gross motor activity, and making red, white, and blue calm down sensory bottles, just to name a few. Our school nurse completed 24 lead tests and staff from the health team completed 73 vision and hearing screens on enrolled children. Lastly, Cornerstone Care Mobile Dentist Unit was on site and completed 34 dental exams.

We were joined by a few community agencies at the health fairs: the Private Industry Council along with a representative from the PA CareerLink®, Fionna Fayette, and WQED/PBS also joined in for the events.

In attendance were 62 families; 89 adults (20 being male), 42 Head Start children, 43 Early Head Start children, and 23 siblings. There were also two families that came that were not enrolled. We completed 2 pre-applications for enrollment.
