February 4th was “National Thank a Mail Carrier Day” and Beaver County’s Wellness Committee showed appreciation to the Mailman that regularly delivers mail to the mall office.  This was a day to celebrate and give thanks to those who ensure our mail is delivered daily.  Mail Carriers work six days a week, 52 weeks of the year, they deliver mail and packages in the rain, snow, and heat.  Their dedication is impressive!

The Wellness Committee seeks to help others in the community as well as motivate staff to make wellness a priority.  We presented our Mailman with a written note of thanks to brighten his day and gift card to Get Go as a small token of our appreciation, recognizing that federal regulations allow postal workers to receive no more than $20.00 cash or gift cards.

I would like to share a few facts about the Postal Service according to facts.usps.com.  Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster in 1775.  The postal service is considered the heart of the mailing industry and employs more than 7.3 million people, including 63,000 military veterans.  They are self-funded and do not receive tax dollars for operating expenses and depend on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operation.  The first stamp was issued July 1, 1847, and features Benjamin Franklin on the 5 cent stamp and George Washington on the 10 cent stamp.

Another interesting fact is the famous people who were postal employees prior to becoming well known.  They include singers, presidents, business moguls, actors, writers, and athletes.  Walt Disney, Bing Crosby, and Sherman Hemsley are a few examples. There are twelve who have been featured on postage stamps. To see the complete list click on the link below.

We are proud to celebrate our Mailman on a job well done!
