On May 18, 2023 Head Start/Early Head Start families gathered for an engaging experience. Fayette, Beaver and Westmoreland Counties came together to support enrolled children’s parents/guardians in learning how to better themselves in order to better their children. We also celebrated the 58th birthday of Head Start by inviting some of the children to parade for us!
The theme of the Annual Parent Training Event this year was Mind, Body, & You…Better ‘You’ For a Better “Them”. The event was offered either by in-person or via zoom with four special guest presenters; Regis Lazor, Judy Siebart, Matt Wolf, and Blair Hyatt. Presenter topics included Understanding Children’s Behaviors, Real Food Verses Processed Food, Practicing Mindfulness, and PHSA Parent Board Nomination Information.
In addition to gaining a wealth of information from the presenters, the participants spent some time talking with agencies who were set up on-site to share available resources. Agencies that participated were WIC, Housing Authority, Drug and Alcohol, Dad’s Matter, Career Link, Counseling Services, and ELRC.
A catered lunch and activity were provided during the day. Those present were invited to share a hot meal. After the meal, they dipped pretzels and cookies and then decorated each with birthday themed sweets and enjoyed a piece of birthday cake. Parents/Guardians also were entered in the wheel of prizes to receive raffle baskets and prizes throughout the day.
