Over the past 3 years, Beaver County Head Start has experienced an increase in the number of ELL families enrolling into the program. Throughout our program there are several sites that have English Language Learners enrolled. These sites are located on the Eastern end of the county which are on the border of Allegheny County / Pittsburgh area.

There are several ways that our program works to support these families, one of the ways is to provide them with an interpreter during the application process as well during home visits / conferences.  All resources provided to the families by the teaching staff are printed in the family’s current language. These resources include the monthly newsletter, In – Kind Calendars, as well as resources from other agencies within the community. Beaver County Head Start also has staff in place who are fluent in multiple languages. These staff members are available to support our families when needed. As our community continues to grow and become more diverse, we will work hard to find every way possible to accommodate the families we serve.

Please check back for part two of Servicing English Language Learns within Beaver County Head Start, where Sharon Shipley will discuss how ELL’s are supported in the classroom.
