Spring started out with guessing whether the groundhog would see his shadow or not. We encouraged the children to vote on whether or not we were going to have six more weeks of winter and created a graph to display our data! Those who said we were going to have an early Spring agreed with the groundhog. It turns out that those who did not agree with the groundhog, guessed correctly! Our lion and lamb activities showed March roared in like the lion and ended like a lion too!
We didn’t let the weather stop us from doing our thing with Dr Seuss. We discussed the places we would go by asking our students “If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Some places named were adventurous and some were places we already knew. Wherever they were we were sure we wanted to go too. We didn’t stop with Dr Seuss as we marched right on to St Patrick’s Day! We made rainbows with marshmallows and discussed if it’s better to have marshmallows or a pot of gold. The children decided that marshmallow rainbows were better. I suspect that their opinions will change with time. Finally, our families worked together to create a shamrock that showed how lucky they are to have each other!
We were also able to join in on several community events! We participated in an Easter Egg hunt at the Connellsville High School Stadium. The Easter Bunny was on hand to take pictures, door prizes were given, and there were opportunities to share information with the community about our agencies here at PIC. We also had our first Open Enrollment Day. Past families stopped by to enroll their younger children and we met new families who filled out applications for next year.
Our Spring adventure continued with our reading night themed “Under the Sea”. Our children were able create fish using construction paper and scissors and scuba divers using paint, paper plates, and their photos to add to the theme of the evening. Pre-K listened to several stories and their families were given the opportunity to learn more about agencies available to them in our area.
