Springfield Pre-K has been hard at work learning about pets. We’ve read books, repurposed materials in the classroom, and have made some pets of our own. We also talked about our classroom pet Peach. He’s a blue beta fish who lives in a tank at the science area in our classroom. The children were asked about the different pets they have at home or which pet they would like to have. They are so excited to learn about all the different kinds of pets through our pet study.
Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kelsey turned the block area into a pet adoption center called “Pre-K Animal Friends.” We have repurposed classroom materials and placed stuffed animals in bins on the shelves. Some of these animals include kittens, puppies, and even a penguin.
We also turned the home living area into a Veterinary clinic which includes a vet kit, toys for the animals and office supplies. The children really loved doing check-ups on their pets. This is helping them learn how to love and care for a pet.
April 5 was pet adoption day! The students made their very own pet to adopt and take home. We made bunnies out of fuzzy socks, filling them with rice, then adding a face and tail. We ended our pet study by naming our bunnies, filling out an adoption certificate, and taking home our new forever friends.
