Mobile PA CareerLink® and Partnership with Schools
To start off the new year, Brownsville Area High School kept the PIC staff very busy in the first quarter. On several visits, staff met with 12th Grade students during their English period, enrolling them in the PA CareerLink® website, assisting them with the initial job search, and as part of their graduation requirements, conducting mock interviews. The students gained experience with interviewing and employer expectations to prepare them for future employment.
Staff also met with students in the TRIO Upward Bound program, assisting them with resume building and mock interviews. The Brownsville Area High School staff has been extremely welcoming and appreciative of all the services the PA CareerLink® Fayette County has provided. We look forward to our partnership with them and additional schools in the future.
The Connellsville Area Career & Technical Center has also welcomed our staff into their building, allowing staff to educate students on all the programs and services the PA CareerLink® has to offer, CWDS enrollment, mock interviews, and employer expectations. Staff have developed a great partnership with the faculty there and look forward to providing additional services in the future.
Spring Job Fair
PA CareerLink® Fayette County held its annual Spring Job Fair on March 20th from 11:00am-2:00pm. There were 27 employers and 13 providers, and 86 job seekers in attendance. The Connellsville Area Career & Technical Center and Connellsville Area High school brought a bus load of students to participate in the event. Employers enjoyed meeting with job seekers and took applications and even scheduled interviews at the event. The staff connected with all the vendors and met with students and job seekers who attended the event. The Career Resource Center (CRC) kept staff busy with creating and printing resumes and completing applications.
A lot of work went into hosting this event. The staff did an awesome job planning and organizing the hiring event. Staff directed traffic, set up tables, manned the registration and PA CareerLink® table, took photos and assisted with clean up.
The positive feedback from vendors about the quality of job seekers is encouraging and we anticipate job placements as a result. Thank you to all who contributed to make our event successful.
