Head Start of Beaver County

In 2013, the Head Start of Beaver County program joined Private Industry Council's Early Childhood Development Division. We are pleased to have this opportunity to bring high-quality early childhood education to additional parts of southwestern Pennsylvania.

Mission Statement

Head Start of Beaver County meet the unique needs of children ages three to five and their families by providing quality education, health services, and experiences that promote parent involvement, school readiness and community engagement.

Core Beliefs:

  • We believe that parents are a child’s first and best teachers.

  • We believe that our entire staff should be committed to children, families, fellow staff members and our community by demonstrating the highest levels of professionalism, dignity, and respect.

  • We believe that the key to self-sufficiency is through quality education, parental responsibility, and community partnerships.

  • We believe that education and a love of learning is critical to school readiness and to a family’s future success.

  • We believe that providing comprehensive services for physical and mental health development are crucial to a child’s life-long well-being.

  • We believe that a child who has proper nutrition and a safe environment can learn effectively.

  • We believe that male family members and father figures make important and unique contributions to our Head Start community.

Building a Strong Foundation

We are dedicated to building a strong foundation of knowledge and promoting healthy development. We also help families by:

  • supporting parents in their role as their child's first and primary teacher,
  • connecting families with available social services, and
  • encouraging active parent engagement and leadership in the program.

Program Design

Funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Head Start, the Beaver County Head Start program serves families with children between the ages of three and five. We offer both home- and classroom-based options.

Classrooms are strategically located throughout Beaver County to best meet the needs of the families we serve. The design of the Beaver County program is informed by our years of experience as a Head Start/Early Head Start administrator in Fayette County.  We use proven curricula and best practices.

As a Head Start program, we promote age-appropriate:

  • Physical development and health
  • Social and emotional development
  • Logic and reasoning skills
  • Effective approaches to learning
  • Language development
  • Literacy knowledge and skills
  • Mathematics knowledge and skills (e.g., understanding what numbers represent)
  • Science knowledge and skills (e.g., using senses to gather information and observe)
  • Creative arts expression
  • Social studies knowledge and skills (e.g., understanding and respecting differences among people)
  • English language development
