Every December we have Polar Express Day in our Pre-K classroom. During this time, we are working on our Box Study, a box is so much more than just a box. This activity connects home and school together. We have families along with their children create/decorate a train engine or train car. Then on Polar Express Day they bring in those boxes they have transformed. The kids dress in their pajamas and sit in their train box while watching the Polar Express movie. If a child does not want to watch the movie they would not have too. But so far, our students have enjoyed the movie over play.

While the children are engaged in the movie, Mrs. McCormick and I slip “golden tickets” into their trains. We have the children find their ticket so we can punch them following the movie. Next the children get chocolate milk and cookies as the characters in the movie sing the Hot Chocolate song. The kids have such fun in their boxes and are engaged in the movie. The families give us positive feedback on just how much fun they had together creating the train.
