On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the Private Industry Council was honored to participate in a Childcare Symposium with the Westmoreland Fayette Workforce Investment Board and Westmoreland Fayette Healthcare Industry Partnership.  The event brought together industry experts, community partners in manufacturing and healthcare, local Senators, legislators and policymakers to discuss the urgent need for childcare stabilization. The event focused on both short- and long-term solutions to the ongoing childcare crisis, which is a significant challenge for families in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties in PA.

The symposium featured a range of speakers, including Stacy Harris, Vice President of Early Childhood, who contributed valuable insights on key topics. One major discussion point was the need for employer-focused resources to address the childcare shortage. Experts shared strategies for businesses to support employees through innovative childcare programs, offering both immediate relief and long-term solutions to ensure a sustainable workforce.

Additionally, collaborative strategies to increase access to affordable, high-quality childcare were highlighted. These approaches involve partnerships between employers, childcare providers, and government agencies, aiming to create more accessible and cost-effective options for families. The symposium emphasized the importance of working together across sectors to ensure that childcare is not only available but also affordable and of high quality, benefiting both employers and employees.  The event served as a critical platform for generating ideas and fostering partnerships that could lead to lasting changes in the childcare landscape, helping stabilize this essential service for families and communities.
