The Private Industry Council’s (PIC) Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts provides an exceptional learning opportunity for preschoolers across Allegheny, Beaver, Fayette and Westmoreland Counties and prepares children for the phase of their lives, Kindergarten.

PA Pre-K Counts is a high-quality pre-kindergarten education program for 3- and 4-year-olds in Pennsylvania with a focus on children who are at risk of academic failure because of income, language, cultural or special needs issues. This program is available to children who are residents of Pennsylvania and whose household income is at or below 300% of the federal poverty level (which equates to $77,250 annually for a family of four). The program is for children who are 3 or 4 years of age as determined by the kindergarten cut-off date of the school district in which they reside and is offered at no cost to the families.

PIC’s PA Pre-K Counts classrooms try to follow school district schedules and attendance policies so that the children are most prepared for when they enter kindergarten. Certified Early Childhood Education teachers not only prepare children for reading and math but also teach them how to pay attention, follow directions and get along with others in a safe, friendly environment. The PA Pre-K Counts classroom sizes are small enough that each child receives quality one-on-one time with the teacher during the six-hour day which also includes two nutritious meals per day. The school readiness taught throughout the program prepares children for kindergarten and beyond!

Parent participation with PA Pre-K Counts is highly encouraged. Parents are invited to volunteer in the classroom as well as work with their children at home on skills learned in the classroom to further their child’s education.

PIC currently operates classrooms in Allegheny, Beaver, Fayette and Westmoreland Counties. The classroom locations in Allegheny County are at Marzolf Primary School and Reserve Primary School in Shaler School District; in Beaver County at Todd Lane Elementary School in Central Valley School District; in Fayette County at Connellsville Township, Springfield Elementary School and Clifford N Pritts Elementary School in Connellsville School District, Friendship Hill Elementary and Masontown Elementary in Albert Gallatin Area School District, Marshall Elementary in Laurel Highlands School District and Wharton Elementary in Uniontown Area School District; and in Westmoreland County at Southmoreland Elementary in Southmoreland School District.
