The Jobs, Education, and Training Program (JET) first began providing services in the Monessen area in February 2012 as a pilot program. Since March 2013, the focus has been in the New Kensington, Arnold, and Lower Burrell area.

JET New Kensington offers workforce training and placement assistance to anyone meeting income guidelines and living in the 15068 zip code. In partnership with the Westmoreland County Housing Authority, the JET program has secured a position in the housing communities to enhance services to those receiving housing assistance.

JET provides face-to-face employment/job search assistance that includes resume writing, interview skills, individualized job search, and assistance ensuring a participant attends employment interviews. JET also provides a conduit to adult education services, including GED® preparation and refresher courses to transition into employment or post-secondary education as well as trainings such as OSHA 10-Hour General Industry and Computer Application.

JET New Kensington has been able to enroll 46 participants and assist in securing 25 (55%) of them with employment thus far; 55% of participants are receiving housing subsidies and 61% are female head of household. The major barrier to employment for participants is transportation, with 51% claiming to have no access. Among JET New Kensington participants, 67% are enrolled in the PIC Adult Education program and 35% have post-secondary education.

JET is proving to be a very positive and valuable community asset that provides much needed services for those in need of employment, education, and training in the New Kensington area.
