The leaves are falling and autumn is in the air. The children are back on their school schedules. When you think about school and when you were a student, do you remember who your favorite teacher was? Most of us remember our favorite teacher as having set up a fun learning environment (classroom); these men and women pushed us lovingly and challenged us to always do our best.

Studies show that parents should be the first and most important teacher in their children’s lives. As a new parent or seasoned parent, you might need help with parenting tips, fun activities to plan, and how to access free resources in the community.

The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC) offers a free, year-round Family Literacy Program that provides opportunities for parents and children. If you have at least one child between the ages of birth and grade 3, you can join.

PIC’s Family Literacy programs in Greensburg and Uniontown will collaborate with the following partners during the 2014-2015 school year to bring fun and educational programs to the local communities it serves: Carnegie Science Center, Connellsville and Hempfield libraries, Pittsburgh Zoo, Penn State Nutrition, Carnegie Museum, and Saint Vincent Prevention. This program is offered in the Greensburg and Uniontown areas. Please call 724-437-2590 or 724-836-2600 for further information or to sign up.
