Head Start/Early Head Start of Beaver County, a program/service provided by the early childhood division of the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC), will be holding a resource fair on Friday May 24th beginning at 5 PM at the Community College of Beaver County Athletics and Events Center (Dome) located in Monaca, PA.

The theme of the event is My Future: Promoting Successful Transitions which will highlight the importance of early education, celebrate HS children’s first experiences with education, recognize our caregivers and volunteers and connect our families to community resources.

The Move Up Day and Resource Fair will have representatives from various community agencies who are available to provide resources to families while Head Start is not in session over the summer months. These vendors will include social services agencies, libraries who offer summer reading program as well as other organizations to support transition activities for children leaving Head Start and entering Kindergarten in the fall.

During the event, the Head Start program will also be recognizing the families of those children who participated in Head Start during the current program year. Each year parents participate through a variety of activities such as volunteer opportunities in the classroom, organizing and attending family events as well as participating in program decision making by being on a program committee or Policy Council. The children will also be recognized as all current Head Start children who will be returning next program year will receive a t-shirt and for those entering Kindergarten in the fall will receive a transition backpack. The transition backpack will be filled with supplies and materials for the parents to participate in transition activities with their child over the summer months to best prepare them for kindergarten.

The Resource Fair is also a great opportunity for individuals throughout the county to learn more about the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs and how it can prepare children for Kindergarten and beyond. Both programs provide comprehensive early childhood education services to low-income families with children from birth to age five, including complete services to children with disabilities and other special needs, at no cost to the parent. Research has consistently shown that children who enter school ready to learn succeed academically later in life.

The Resource Fair will be held on Friday May 24th from 5 PM to 7:30 PM at the Community College of Beaver County Athletics and Events Center (Dome) at 1 Campus Drive Monaca, PA 15061.
