Center of Excellence

The Center of Excellence: Social-Emotional Early Development Success (COE: SEEDS) program was created as a result of Head Start of Fayette County receiving the National Center of Excellence in Early Childhood Award in November 2010. The award was granted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and was only granted to 10 Head Start facilities nationwide.

The Private Industry Council is using the funding resulting from this award to assist children of all ages, parents, and early education programs in preventing, reducing, and treating aggression and other inappropriate behaviors by promoting children's emotional, social, and academic competence.

The COE:SEEDS Project offers both parent and teacher training using the Incredible Years® Curriculum. Parent workshops are offered free of charge to any parent or caregiver involved in a child’s life. These workshops provide parents with the tools needed to make that valuable time with their children less stressful and more meaningful. The Teacher Classroom Management Workshop is focused on strengthening teacher classroom management strategies, promoting children’s pro-social behavior and school readiness, and reducing classroom aggression and noncooperation with peers and teachers.
