Afterschool and Summer Enrichment Programs
Bridging Youth to Opportunities
Fayette & Westmoreland Counties
Afterschool Enrichment Programs provide students in grades K-12 with homework help, tutoring, academic hands-on activities in subjects such as STEAM and Reading, character building opportunities, socio-emotional lessons, health and nutrition education, and physical activity. Programming time and days vary per location. Students are encouraged to attend four days a week. During the school year, presentations and speakers are offered to enhance the educational experience. Program staff also bring in presentations from the Carnegie Science Center’s Mobile Fab Lab and Rivers of Steel. Programming is offered at no cost to the families and transportation is provided.

Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Programs
Connellsville & Southmoreland Locations
This programming runs three hours a day after school Monday through Thursday, except in West Crawford Elementary where programming is an hour before school and two hours after school. Students are encouraged to attend four days a week.

Westmoreland County DHS Out-of-School STEAM Program
Monessen Location
This Out-of-School STEAM Program runs two hours a day after school Monday through Thursday. Students are provided with a meal through the school district. Students are encouraged to attend four days a week. This program also provides a summer enrichment component. The Summer Enrichment Program is an extension of the afterschool programming. It encourages students to continue learning out of school and not fall victim to “summer slide,” a decrease in student achievement that can result in a long-term achievement gap. There will be a 6-week, hands-on summer program is offered. Participants are engaged in hands-on cultural and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning opportunities. Staff bring in various providers such as Education Technology Institute, Monessen Family Center, etc.
