The Afterschool Enrichment Program provides youth in grades 4-8 with homework help, tutoring, academic enrichment activities, character building opportunities, health and nutrition education, and physical activity. Programming runs three hours a day after school Monday through Thursday. Students are encouraged to attend four days a week. During the school year, presentations and speakers are offered to enhance the educational experience. The Youth Staff also bring in Science on the Road presentations from the Carnegie Science Center.
The Afterschool Enrichment Program can be found at the following districts and sites:
|Aliquippa||Aliquippa Elementary (4th-6th)|
|Aliquippa||Aliquippa Junior High (7th-8th)|
|New Brighton||New Brighton Elementary (4th-5th)|
|New Brighton||New Brighton MS (6th-8th)|
|Uniontown||Lafayette MS (6th-8th)|
The Summer Enrichment Program is an extension of the afterschool programming. The Summer Enrichment Program encourages students to continue learning out of school and not fall victim to “summer slide,” a decrease in student achievement that can result in a long-term achievement gap. Depending on the site, a 6-week, hands-on summer program is offered. Participants are engaged in hands-on cultural and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning opportunities.
Over past summers, the children have built water bottle rockets and solar ovens and made chalk art and much, much more. The Youth Staff bring in programming from Penn State to provide the students with unique learning opportunities.
Both programs are free. Transportation and a snack is provided to all children.
The Afterschool Enrichment Program and the Summer Enrichment Program are funded by 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants through the Department of Education.
